Organisations working with Children/Young People

Each person who works, or has direct contact, with children, young people, and/or their families and carers should take and pass a Standard Child Safeguarding Course.

Each organisation involved with children, young people, and/or their families and carers should have a Lead and Deputy for Child Protection (to manage any Child Safeguarding concerns raised) who are not closely related and do not live in the same household. They should both take and pass a Leading on Child Safeguarding  Course. The Standard Child Safeguarding  Course (or equivalent) is a prerequisite.

Organisations working with Adults

Each person who works, or has direct contact, with adults at risk and/or their families and carers should take and pass a Standard Adult Safeguarding Course. Previously known as SOVA (Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults) or POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults)

Each organisation involved with adults at risk and/or their families and carers should have a Lead and Deputy for Adult Safeguarding (to manage any Adult Safeguarding concerns raised) who are not closely related and do not live in the same household. They should both take the Leading on Adult Safeguarding Course. The Standard Adult Safeguarding course (or equivalent) is a prerequisite.

Organisations working with Children/Young People and Adults

Where individuals or organisations work with both children/young people and adults at risk, both courses should be taken due to the differences in legislation.

The Lead and Deputy for Child Safeguarding can be the same persons as Lead and Deputy for Adult Safeguarding. They should take both "Leading on" courses.

Organisations not working directly with children, young people or adults at risk  but working where they may be present do not need full safeguarding training. Instead, the SAFEaware range of products would be suitable which deals with their level of "duty of care".
